New Songs, New Life, No home at the moment

I’m here at my parent’s house right now in Parker Colorado in between touring and going back and forth to Ireland (it’s this whole other country!).
Nothing much to do here, the parent’s live in an adobe house surrounded by lots of horses and white people. I’ve resorted to watching GI Joe PSAs on youtube and Maria Bamford webisodes, when all the sudden a UPS truck pulled up wth 9 boxes of my new cd! So, i’ve been up to my ears sending out packages to all the nice people who pre-ordered my cd ahead of time.
For all you who didn’t, well you’ll just have to wait till October when the “official release” happens, which doesn’t actually mean much except you can’t get my new cd unless you come to one of my shows and get one there, or get your friend to illegally copy it from their ipod, or write to me and ask me if you can buy one- I’m basically a big slut for my new cd.
But I’m really excited about this one! It’s called “pursuit” and you can listen to the songs now on myspace.
Pursuit has big-time musical stars, such as Willie Breeding, Steve Waitt, Justin Craig and Robby Cosenza from the Scourge of the Sea, and the most famous of all- Tessa Perry the hip, new, Irish sensation that Ireland’s Hot Press calls “a voice worthy of attention”. It was produced by Duane Lundy, who I think looks curiously like Ryan Adams (but who doesn’t these days?), and happens to be extremely talented and amazing at what he does.

New York City Curds and Whey

Once you finally decide that your days are numbered in New York City, the city becomes infinitely less beautiful- Someone ran into my car and broke the tail light into a million pieces on 29th street and didn’t leave a note or anything, Target in the Atlantic Center makes me want to take out my eyeballs and soak them in acid, and WHY does the United States Postal Service not work around here? Are they hoarding my packages? Where the lastest book I just ordered off Amazon “RV’s- the guide to getting out and staying out”? So today, I rebel against all my lists of things to do and I’ve surprised myself with acting COMPLETELY out of character and cleaning the bathroom (a job given to me by the fed up wife) and listening to Chopin (a song I’m writing for a pre-order. a friend of mine who was thinking he wants his song to sound like a chopin prelude. Does he KNOW i dropped out of piano lessons at 13?). I feel like I’m waiting for something…*****But yesterday, the sun was out, and I sang back-up at my friend Steve Waitt’s gig last night at the Living Room. It was packed! Steve likes to stick me right up there, front and center, even though I’m just singing harmony. It forces you to perform a little, I can’t just be a doo-wop lady off to the side. After performing with Steve about 50 times, I’ve finally figured out how to not feel like an idiot up there with no instrument. The whole band rocks so much, and last night, I was Liz-Clark-The-Lounge-Singer, looking over the heads of all the beautiful, artsy, New York City-types. All this is what makes me stay here. It’s so very typical of New York to make me chose like this. If I like playing at the living room, I gotta live with the smashed tail light, and so on.

Had a little freak out today upon arriving back to brooklyn. Now the fun part is over and I have to think about mixing and mastering the cd, promotion, manufacturing- all the really un-fun stuff about being a musician. I thought about getting a big piece of paper like the kind in “win lose or draw” and making little spiders of boxes with lines attaching ideas together. Kind of beautiful-mind out. Instead I took a 2 hour nap and worked on my newest paint-by-number. A highly detailed clown face. Very productive day…

Hello good people!

On March 17th, I made my way down to Kentucky to work with a great producer on my next twelve or so songs. I’m really excited about this one. I feel like it will be my most honest work I’ve done yet. I’ve been slowly raising the funds for this new project and I still need “a little help from my friends.”

I’m recording my new album at Shargra-La Productions in Lexington - in Duane Lundy’s wonderfully vibed out 4000 square foot studio. I think it’s our 6th day and we’re almost done. All the pieces are coming together, we’re getting a lot of work done but having a blast, too. I freakin love all the people here. I kinda want to move in and just live here forever. Chris and Jennifer have been shooting video and photos for us. Willie Breeding is on guitar and moral support, along with his lovely breeding family, much love to them. Steve Waitt came down from the grind of New York to play keys. Also fell in love with the session guys here on drums and guitar, Justine and Robbie from the band, The Scourge of the Sea . And last but not least, the beautiful Tessa Perry is adding her special spark with vocals. Definitely check out her blog. I’m the luckiest gal in the world.
