Every summer for the last 4 years, I basically join the witness protection program. Except I haven’t witnessed anything brutal. So henceI don’t need much protection. BUT it feels like that when I come off the road after spending time in NYC and traveling the country meeting a million people and , bam!, come April, I travel all the way to the edge of the earth; Baltimore Ireland.
It’s freakishly small. It’s so rustic, I have to ask if I can get cell phone coverage out here. Or if wireless internet exists out here. (I can, and it does) It’s the farthest south and west you can go in Ireland where there are dramatic cliffs and yes, abslutely everything is green. Green and Grey. It rains (present tense).
Tessa takes off her cool scarfs and jackets that she wears at our gigs and trades them in for chef whites. Now she’s “Glebe-Gardens-and-Cafe-Tessa” and she cooks up lovely organic, homemade yummy things that are picked out of the garden or hatched out of the cute free-range chickens out back. I’m still the same Liz though, so when I’m not trying my hand at being a bad watiress, I spend my time taking walks and playing my guitar, writing songs-I’ve got a LOT of time on my hands. Which is more than most people can say so I’m trying to appreciate it! “Liz, you better eat all that time you have left on your plate! there are starving business people in Manhattan!”
I follow Tessa here for love, but also I think it’s a great way to get my head together after trying to be such a little mildly famous rock star all the time! If any of you are in Ireland, I have a bunch gigs here in the next couple months and I’ll be back stateside in July so I can do things like wear a bikini and swim without freezing my balls off (like happens in Ireland).
It’s almost been about 3 months since I gave up my little apartment in New York and hit the road full-time. Everything is going to plan, I feel like- although now that I’m home, my parents and my responsible older sister keep wondering, “yes, but Liz, what are your REAL plans?”. I guess I do seem a little touchy-feely in that regard, but I’m totally livin’ it up. On our last trip to the west coast I got to stay in a custom-built, adobe-style, jillion dollar home in Utah with some new friends, I got to see the Beatles Cirque De Soleil “Love” show in Vegas and basically cried because I miss those guys so much, I got to spend the elections in L.A. and watch Barack Obama win, I made new friends in Seattle and got to play a house concert in a freakin AWESOME loft where everything is, including the kitchen table, is on wheels, and I got to meet my sister-in-law’s new baby, Eddie in Vancouver.
I just had my birthday the day after Christmas and all I really wanna do is read books and knit and watch Lord of the Rings. Soon, this will all come to a close and Tessa and I will pack up my purple Jeep named Carla and head down to Texas to play more gigs and play with our old friends from Austin. I’ll keep you updated…
Now you can request songs from my new cd Pursuit (and my older cds as well!) 24/7 at KGRL’s station website via a chat window - www.kgrl.fm .
These people are the sweetest in the world and play great music by female musicians. They’ve added my whole dang album to their playlist, so check it out if you haven’t heard it yet!

New Songs, New Life, No home at the moment
I’m here at my parent’s house right now in Parker Colorado in between touring and going back and forth to Ireland (it’s this whole other country!).
Nothing much to do here, the parent’s live in an adobe house surrounded by lots of horses and white people. I’ve resorted to watching GI Joe PSAs on youtube and Maria Bamford webisodes, when all the sudden a UPS truck pulled up wth 9 boxes of my new cd! So, i’ve been up to my ears sending out packages to all the nice people who pre-ordered my cd ahead of time.
For all you who didn’t, well you’ll just have to wait till October when the “official release” happens, which doesn’t actually mean much except you can’t get my new cd unless you come to one of my shows and get one there, or get your friend to illegally copy it from their ipod, or write to me and ask me if you can buy one- I’m basically a big slut for my new cd.
But I’m really excited about this one! It’s called “pursuit” and you can listen to the songs now on myspace.
Pursuit has big-time musical stars, such as Willie Breeding, Steve Waitt, Justin Craig and Robby Cosenza from the Scourge of the Sea, and the most famous of all- Tessa Perry the hip, new, Irish sensation that Ireland’s Hot Press calls “a voice worthy of attention”. It was produced by Duane Lundy, who I think looks curiously like Ryan Adams (but who doesn’t these days?), and happens to be extremely talented and amazing at what he does.
i miss new york…
